Redmi 12 5G with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 & Dual Rear Cameras Unveiled in India

Today, Redmi added another smartphone to its portfolio with the launch of the Redmi 12 in India. Not only this, the company also unveiled Redmi Watch 3 Active and Xiaomi TV X series in the event.

The company launched the Redmi 12, its ultra-budget smartphone in 4G & 5G connectivity in the country, and both Redmi 12 4G & Redmi 12 5G are identical in terms of specifications with two main changes

Redmi 12 5G is essentially a repackaged Redmi 12R that was recently launched in China, and in case you missed let’s quickly go through the design.

In terms of design, there’s a big display upfront with a punch-hole front camera. There are minimal bezels on the sides though there’s a big chin, well that’s expected since its an ultra-budget smartphone

As for the back, there’s a dual camera setup with individual camera housing and an LED Flash. The company logo is at the bottom.

Redmi 12 Series Specifications

As mentioned above, Redmi 12 4G & 5G connectivity options have one major difference between them, i.e., the SoC. Redmi 12 4G & 5G features a 6.79-inch LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate & FullHD+ resolution with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. it has a 240Hz touch sampling rate & 450 nits of Peak brightness.

As for the processing power, the Redmi 12 4G features a MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, while the 12 5G has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, which is a first for the ultra-budget segment.

The devices will be coupled with 4/6/8GB LPDDR4X RAM & 128/256GB storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card up to 1TB of storage. Both the devices run on MIUI 14, based on Android 13, and come in three colorways, Pastel Blue, Jade Black, and Moonstone Silver.

For the optics, This is another department where the 12 4G differs from the Redmi 12 5G as the 4G model features a triple rear camera setup while the 12 5G has a dual rear camera at the back.

There’s a 50MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lens on the 12 4G, and on the other hand, the 12 5G features the same 50MP primary lens.

However, there’s no wide-angle lens instead, it has a 2MP depth lens. On the front, both devices share the same 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Both 12 4G & 12 5G feature a 5,000mAh battery with 18 fast-wired charging; Redmi also provides a fast charger in the box. The Redmi 12 4G and 5G models are IP53 rated so that the devices can sustain a splash of water

Other features of the devices include dual-band WiFi, IR Blaster, USB OTG, Bluetooth & more.
